Alfie’s Guide
How we review
Every page says exactly what was done to produce it, and every price says when it was checked.
Three evidence labels
Every review and comparison carries one of these labels. The label is generated from the data we hold, so a page cannot say more than the evidence supports.
- Tested. We signed up and used the product. The page says what we did, for how long and when, and a test record is on file.
- Measured. The numbers come from our own monitors. The page states the locations, the check interval and the date range. We require at least 60 days of data before quoting a measured number.
- Researched. Built from public pricing and specifications captured on a stated date. We did not test the product hands-on, and the page says so.
Scores
Scores run from 0 to 10 and are a weighted average of criteria such as value for money, features, ease of use, support and one section-specific criterion. The weights are shown on every review. Score bands: 8.5 and above is excellent, 7 to 8.4 good, 5.5 to 6.9 fair, below 5.5 weak. Persona pages ("best for") re-weight the same criteria, so the ranking can change for different readers.
A score is only published with structured data (star-rating markup for search engines) when it is a real editorial score. Illustrative sample pages never carry it.
Prices
Prices are captured from the vendor's public pages and stored with the date and source. Every price on the site shows when it was checked. We show the introductory price and the renewal price side by side, because the renewal price is what you pay after the first term. Refresh targets: AI tools 7 days, SaaS and website builders 14 days, hosting 30 days.
How we choose what to cover
We choose products and comparison pairs by reader demand and relevance, not by commission alone. Comparison pages without a demand-backed query are not indexed by search engines.
What we do not do
- We do not claim to have tested what we have only researched.
- We do not copy vendor descriptions or review text.
- We do not let affiliate commission change a ranking.
